French President Emmanuel Macho has changed his cell phone number due to Pegasus spyware, AFP reports.
Pegasus spyware is used on the smartphones of important people in more than 50 countries, including politicians, journalists and businessmen. The news came in an investigative report published simultaneously in 18 international media.
The news that Pegasus spyware made by NSO group of Israel is quite popular has come to everyone's notice. However, cyber attacks through spyware or other malware have not stopped. If it is not a big event or if the victims are few, then the news is not discussed.
Initially, the process of getting into a Pegasus spyware smartphone was not a complicated one. A link to a web page is sent to the phone via SMS or iMessage. When the recipient clicks on it, the malware enters the phone and sends the user information to the hacker.
In the media, we have seen more news of Pegasus spreading through iPhone than smartphones with Android operating system. However, no device is 100% secure. Now the question is, how to keep your phone safe from spyware attacks.
Pegasus spyware was not designed to spread widely. From that point of view, it is not available on most people's phones. However, the purpose of creating many more types of malware is to spread it on smartphones as much as possible. And the lion's share of the process of staying safe in all cases is self-awareness. All you can do is:
1. If there is a link in any type of message on the mobile phone, look at two things. One. Do you believe him who sent you? Two. The link that came is from a reliable website. Pegasus has spread through web links in iMessage. Most cyber criminals, however, try to use this method.
2. Update your phone's operating system to the latest version of all apps. You may have heard this a hundred times. However, the latest software updates also include the latest security strategies.
3. The cost of time, labor and money is not less in creating malware. After that, the hacker gets a chance to keep an eye only if he can spread it on the user's smartphone. This is the virtual side. Also keep in mind the 'physical' side. Be sure to keep options like pin code, fingerprint or face lock enabled so that no one can use your phone.
4. It is better not to use free public wifi. Especially when using confidential information. And if you have to use, VPN can be a good solution.
5. If possible, encrypt sensitive information on your smartphone. And in cases where there is a remote wipe to remove data remotely, keep it active. This will have at least one option in case your phone is lost or stolen.
I like reading the options how to keep our phone safe from Pegasus spyware attacks. Thanks for the methods and the informations.
